Happy New Year's Eve (with an Apostrophe)!

Local newspapers and magazines are filled with ads for New Year's Eve events at bars and clubs. About half of them leave out the apostrophe. Here's an example of an incorrectly punctuated ad:

My attempt to rip it out of the paper was also a fail. Or maybe I was just angry about the bad punctuation. Here's an ad from the flip side of the same page:

um...I feel like I'm about to flunk a really easy spelling quiz, but...is there an apostrophe catastrophe on that second one? If so, I'm completely missing it. *cringes in preparation for ruler slap.*

Shouldn't it technically be New Years' Day...as in possession of the day belongs to the new year? I was actually looking up how to write New Years' Resolution...it looks wrong, but is that not grammatically correct?

Never mind...That's for things that end in s...which this should't. That would make it New Years's...ugg

Shouldn't there also be an apostrophe in Christams' Eve?
